Reading

I've set up a new page where you can see what I've been reading lately. Check it out to get a more-or-less running account of what I've been reading.

Here are some books that I have particularly enjoyed. You may want to read them, too! You can easily purchase these books from Amazon.com.

Star Trek

ST:TNG #18: Q-In-Law

I personally count this as among the best of the Star Trek books, mainly because it's the one that I most wish was an episode of the TV series. Written by Peter David, a prolific Star Trek author with a delightful sense of humor, this novel explores the meeting of the omnimalevolent Q and Lwaxana Troi. Unfortunately for the crew, Lwaxana falls in love with Q -- who doesn't necessarily return the feeling.

Fantasy

The Sword of Truth series

This series by author Terry Goodkind is fairly typical of the swords-and-sorcery genre, but Mr. Goodkind's craftsmanship is a notch above.

Business

The Macintosh Way

Do you want to know why the Macintosh has such a faithful following? Do you want to know how Apple created a product that changed the way the world looks at computing? Do you want to know why the ultimate compliment to a new version of Microsoft Windows is still "it's almost as good as the Mac?"

These questions and more are answered in Guy Kawasaki's The Macintosh Way, the essential handbook to "guerilla marketing" -- Apple style.

Human Factors

The Design of Everyday Things

Don Norman is The Man when it comes to human factors. In his most popular book, he describes some of the basic principles of human factors in design. If you aren't sure what human factors is all about -- or what good human-factors design may be -- buy and read this book!
