I'm incredibly excited that Swing music and the Big Band style are making a comeback. This is wonderful music, and I'm glad that I can finally stock up on some new groups!
I love this group! They have a nice, full sound that is faithful to the soul of Big Band Swing, even though they're a relatively small group. Excellent orchestration, and a very high-quality recording. If you're going to buy just one "new swing" album, I'd recommend this one!

This group is more popular than BBVD right now. Personally, I think they sound kind of "thin," but that's because I'm used to the older Big Band and orchestral Swing arrangements. CPD's lyrics are definitely modern, though, and may cause raised eyebrows in older folks. Good recording.

The Zippers are reminiscent of the bluegrass variety of swing. It's enjoyable music, but if you're looking for Miller/Goodman style swing, you may be disappointed. The recording is crisp and clean, with a strong bass line. Singer Katharine Whalen, featured on several songs, has a voice that came straight out of the Forties, making her an incredible find for any swing band -- play "Low Down Man" on a cheap radio and you might just think you'd found an old recording! This is an Enhanced CD, with multimedia content that plays back on Macintosh and Windows based computers; it requires QuickTime 3.0, which is included. If you like the "new swing" sound, you'll like this album. If you prefer the classic swing bands, you'd probably find Big Bad Voodoo Daddy more to your tastes than the Zippers.

Purists might not like this anthology series. These are original recordings of the old Big Band artists, digitally processed to remove recording noise and create a stereo sound field. It's not a perfect process, but it's certainly listenable, and the average Joe will find it more listenable than the original, scratchy, mono recordings. I'm incredibly jazzed that Amazon stocks these albums! I originally got most of them at the local BJ's Wholesale Club years ago. Recommended!
